ICIF Founder Trustee K.M. Abdul Salam passes away.

Mr. K.M. Abdul Salam, one of our founder trustees and mentor of Indian Centre for Islamic Finance-ICIF passed away yesterday at Ernakulam, Kerala. His funeral payer was held on the same day 7.30pm at Kaloor Karugapally Juma Masjid, Ernakulam,  He was hospitalized at a private hospital in the city  for the past month after suffering from liver tumor. 



Mr Abdul Salam  was a former Manager of Reserve Bank of India and former Finance Manager of Madhyamam Group of Publications. He was currently serving as the director of Alternative Investments and Credits Limited (AICL). Possessed in-depth knowledge of Islamic Banking and Financial system, he was a Member of Executive Committee of the Indian Association for Islamic Economics, Kerala Chapter and also was the former Secretary of IAFIE Tamilnadu Chapter.

He was also involved in RBI Employees Association and commanded great respect and regard among its members

Mr. Abdul Salam was a great man to work for and was always professional and pleasant. His contributions to ICIF during his years of dedicated and selfless service were many and varied. He used his powerful and high profile contacts with various officials for liaison with ICIF and Regulators, especially with RBI and with Finance Ministry. He was an important member of the delegation that interacted with Dr Chakrabarty DG RBI and Anand Sinha and submitted documents to accommodate Islamic Finance along with conventional banking and also Finance Ministry Secretary Mr Gopalan.  He also played an important role in coordinating the historic case of the shariah compliant NBFC of Kerala Government along with NRIs ultimately the historic case was won against Dr Subrahmanian Swami's petition at Kerala High Court in 2011.


 We remember and appreciate his great efforts and initiatives in the working of ICIF and pray Almighty to rest the soul of departed in paradise and grant patience and solace to his family members and associates.
